3 brands with ingredient safety data sourced from Open Food Facts (CC0) and matched against FDA Substances Added to Food (SAFFA) regulatory status and EU Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008. Each brand profile aggregates the safety scores of the additives recorded across its products. Scores run on a 1-to-5 scale (1 = banned or avoid, 5 = generally recognized as safe). Several US states now restrict specific additives — California's Food Safety Act (AB 418), signed in October 2023, was the first — so a brand's standing can shift as it reformulates; see our methodology for how scores are derived.
