Not medical or dietary advice

The safety scores, FDA and EU statuses, and state regulations on this site describe the regulatory standing of food additives. They do not constitute medical, nutritional or dietary advice and are not a substitute for guidance from a qualified physician or registered dietitian. If you have allergies, sensitivities or a health condition, consult a healthcare professional before making decisions about what you eat.

Regulatory status, not a safety verdict

An additive being FDA-approved does not mean it carries zero risk, and a state ban does not by itself prove an additive is unsafe — it reflects a policy judgment that can differ between jurisdictions. Our 1–5 score summarises regulatory standing and documented concerns; it is not an independent toxicological assessment.

Accuracy & timeliness

Regulatory status changes, sometimes quickly. We render each page from the most recent load of official sources, but there can be a lag between an agency's action and our update. Always verify a current legal status against the primary source — we link to it where one is available — before relying on it for a regulatory or commercial decision.

Product data

Product-level ingredient lists come from Open Food Facts, a community database. Labels and formulations change; the authoritative ingredient list is the one printed on the product you are holding.
